Just a little weekend amuse bouche

You’re busy people so just a little one for you today.

One of m’learned colleagues at the Western Morning news, John Grimes, is something of a food blogger as well. One with an eye for wordplay at that.

One of his latest works is a slightly surreal take on the role plays in our language. Thankfully, he doesn’t waffle on…

I thought writing a list of common phrases and sayings that include food items would be a piece of cake, but the exercise has been driving me bananas.

Though when the chips are down and you’re in the soup, you just keep at it until you bring home the bacon. It may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but such a list may well give food for thought to many people who like their cake and eat it.

A friend of mine is full of beans because he has just met a real honey – she’s got lovely mince pies and he says she’s the apple of his eye. He obviously thinks she’s the best thing since sliced bread, so for his sake, I hope it doesn’t go pear-shaped.
