Cornish beers invited to take part in Kuwait Beer Festival

A Cornish brewery has been given the unusual honour of being invited to take part in the Kuwait Beer Festival.

The Driftwood Spars in St Agnes is sending 120 bottles of ale to the British Embassy in the Middle East for the event next year.

Proprietor Louise Treseder is sending 60 bottles of her very own Lou’s Brew and 60 bottles of Trouble and Strife.

She said: “At first we weren’t sure whether or not the British Embassy in Kuwait was serious, so when we realised it was a genuine request we were only too happy to send over some home brewed beers from Cornwall.”

The consignment will be transported to Tilbury Docks, in Essex, this week where it will be shipped out for the festival starting on February 18, 2011.

The British Embassy has contacted 11 breweries in Britain to showcase their beers in Kuwait.

The event is being sponsored by International Diplomatic Supplies (IDS), which has agreed to add a winning British beer to its distribution list.

If either of the Driftwood Spars beers wins the competition then the pub will be asked to supply 1,000 bottles to the Middle East.

Louise added: “It is a fantastic opportunity to have our beers distributed across the globe as IDS supplies to 35 countries throughout the world including Australia, New Zealand, America and Russia.”
