Celebrity chefs Michael Caines, Mitch Tonks and Anton Piotrowski, the winner of Masterchef The Professionals 2012, will join established Plymouth culinary stars James and Chris Tanner for the tenth anniversary Flavour Fest, which starts on Friday.
They are all among the chefs holding cooking demonstrations at what is the South West’s largest food and drink festival, with more than 150,000 visitors over the three days it runs in Armada Way.
Holly Reynolds, the assistant city centre manager, said: “Over the past nine years Flavour Fest has firmly established itself as a key attraction in our summer events calendar and that of the surrounding area with locals and visitors alike coming down to show their enthusiasm for the Westcountry’s produce.
“As the event is set to grow even bigger this year with extra stalls and the new ales and wines area, we look forward to welcoming visitors from all over the South West and further afield to experience the best traditional and contemporary produce the region has to offer.”
This year Flavour Fest will welcome additional trading stalls to the 2013 event which will stretch through the heart of Plymouth’s city centre from the Kitchen Theatre on the Piazza, to Place de Brest where the real ales and wines area will be located.
A variety of local ale, wine, cider and beer stalls will feature in the new real ale and wine area along with entertainment from the Covent Garden entertainers including an international street dancer, an escape artist and a slack rope walker.
The event’s Kitchen Theatre is a hugely popular feature attracting large numbers of spectators who come to watch the live cookery demonstration’s by the impressive line-up of celebrity and well-known regional chefs.
It will kick-starts the event with Flavour Fest’s version of Ready, Steady, Cook.
Chris and James Tanner will go head-to-head in the competition with two surprise celebrity guests.
Presented by Natalie Corner from ‘BBC Spotlight’, the event will feature live on BBC Radio Devon and then on ‘Spotlight’ evening news bulletin.
Located in the centre of the event site, the Food is Fun marquee is equipped with a mini cookery theatre and will host cookery demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and healthy educational stalls for children as well as face painting and other fun activities.
